The Velvet Easel Gallery…getting ready to re-open!
Well, this is my first visit to my gallery, The Velvet Easel Gallery in Portobello, Edinburgh since the lockdown due to Covid-19 regulations began back in March! Sporting my Liberty mask and carrying some cleaning materials, we went in early this morning (actually prompted by my requiring to take a meter reading!) It felt so good to be back…
First task was to change the window, always a favourite thing to do of mine; then we set up the Perspex sneeze/cough shield at the counter – I’d feared that it would look awful but, in actual fact, it looked fine; finally, a bit of a clean of the front window and foyer and a short photo shoot before heading home.
The Velvet Easel Gallery opened on 2nd November 2013…I took a bit of a risk and took early retirement to set it up…and have never looked back. The gallery itself is situated in a lovely Victorian shop on Portobello High Street – it has a lovely atmosphere, is bathed in natural light and looks across to a lovely big old Georgian house.
The gallery features all types of art by local, national and International artists and hosts mixed exhibition 4 times a year. It has been a joy to run and has allowed me to feel part of the local community as well as meeting locals, artists and customers from all over the world.
Currently, only essential shops are allowed to open, however, it seems likely that non-essential businesses will open soon and this morning was the first step towards adapting to the new world we all currently find ourselves in…look forward to welcoming you back if you’ve visited before and meeting you for the first time if you haven’t! The current exhibition title is Where the Shadows Come to Play and features an array of stunning art…hopefully see you soon!
